It was early in this Second semester, 2013/14 academic year when the second “Read me a poem in the candle light” took place. It was indeed a moment of love poetry readings, and dedications. All of this took place at the auditorium of Maison Française Legon. When I entered the auditorium, I was greeted with a serene cool dim candle light that was emanating from a scented wax, decorated around. It was beautiful to behold and I must congratulate the Walk The talk Group for that spectacular and wonderful set up.

This was the second time the show had been held. The first time was in February 14, 2013. As a yearly event that took place in the month of February before Valentine’s Day, it served as a unifying platform to our audience who came there with their partners and loved ones as the decorations charged the atmosphere with love. Songs accompanied poetry readings, then dedications and later to music.

Most of the readings were done by one person, while the dedications were read by a volunteer from the crowd which  I though brought in a lot of participation and a feeling of belonging on the part of the audience that were there. Leander David, the founder of the group graced the event, reading to the audience, some of his love poems from his “OUR EMPIRE” collection of poems found in Google blog (thegreatempire.blogspot.com).

Dedications was in a very willing form where a person from the crowd was allowed and made to select a piece of paper placed in a transparent glass bowl  bearing a unique number. Each unique number was a key to a compiled list of dedications  and the most exciting of them all was when the one reading the dedication had to call somebody’s name and dedicate the selected piece to.

Distinguish guest at the event were the Director of Maison Française, Aurelia Bourgueil and Dr. B. Ruiz Molina, a lecturer at the Spanish Section of Modern Languages, University of Ghana, Legon. Many students and poets were also present. Scotia Eyram Akar a student poet and an out gone President of the Spanish Club ( El Club Hispánico) was also there to read a couple of her poems as well.

The monotony of poems and dedications were broken with riddles and singing. Yvette Akar, a final year student of the University, presented a vocal song Speechless by Anita Wilson. She was not accompanied by any instrumental and I was touched by the passion and with which she brought it out from her soul.

I would wish that the next candle light event be as interesting as this was if not more. I feel the group did a good job and also deserve a tap at the shoulder.
