As a poet not only should you be able to write and perform your own poem but you should also be able to perform and speak to your audience in a language they understand most and that is what happened at the International Conference on Afro-Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and Latin American Studies (ICALLAS V), 2016 today.

The last time this international conference took place in Ghana was in 2014. Leander David who has been the Coordinator of the Walk The talk Group since 2011 was the only poet who performed a Spanish poem to grace the opening ceremony. His proficiency in the language and the dexterity at which he did his presentation was enough to win him another opportunity to perform at this year’s conference.

Today he performs a popular poem he wrote with Snr. Novieto, “Aqui Estamos”. This poem recounts the forgotten past while waiting in calmness and in much hope for the approaching future. You can read it in full by clicking this url http://thegreatempire.blogspot.com/2016/08/aqui-estamos.html and watch it perform here https://youtu.be/DjjMTZFLfWQ
