UTEP’s Candice M. Gibbs was adjudged poet of the year during the 2024 Unesco World Poetry Day Commemoration with the poem titled “Movimiento”.

She is an MFA graduate in Creative writing at UTEP. Just as it was rightly described by the renown Poet, Professor Justo Bolekia as ‘representative of America”, her creative piece extols the folkloric culture of America through the eye lens of a family in a natural setting. Look out for her poem as we publicly unveil and officially read it in the coming fall.
